PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

For the past 30 years, IUF has provided advice and support to groups interested in pursuing a partnership approach to the management of upland areas. IUF supports the establishment of new upland partnerships and the maintenance of existing upland partnership groups. IUF has published a set of principles for establishing local sustainable development partnerships.

The Minister for Rural and Community Develop ment and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, launched a public consultation to further inform development of the next iteration of Ireland’s Rural Development Policy, Our Rural Future 2026-2031. In December 2025, the IUF made a submission to this Consultation Paper. This submission was prepared by Frank Nugent IUF Chair; Deidre Lewis IUF Secretary, and Prof. Jim Walsh, former IUF Board member. The full submission paper can be found here

In 2025, the IUF completed a stakeholder survey to inform our next Strategic Plan (2026-2030) based on a range of stakeholder interests and feedback. The results were presented at a IUF Networking Workshop in Clifden’s Station House Hotel on 22 October 2025. Further details of the results can be found here . The 2026-2030 IUF Strategic Plan will be published in the first quarter of 2026.
